"Bel Ami" Italian article - now in theaters (Scan)

English version
This morning I read on local neswpapers, two articles about the movie Bel Ami, that is released today in Italy, where the main actors are Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci and Kristin Scott-Thomas: merciless, in particulary the second one. So, considering that they tell their opinion, I tell mine.
The first one headed: “From Twilight to Maupassant”.
Obviously there is the usual comparison that people do between Pattinson’s characters and the famous vampire Edward Cullen; his actor quality are commended more than Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), but in this movie, journalist opinion, he will be commended only by his “loving fans” and so he describes the movie “dreary”. Besides, from a person that has founded “brilliant” the scene in which Uma Thurman rapes the protagonist, what could you expect? Anyway, let’s talk about the second one. This is most upsetting. It is headed “Social climber and seducer”.
After a brief description who Georges Duroy is (the protagonist of the movie), followed by a quote of the book, he is drawn “a seducer who no women stand up to him”, thing that is good for Robert in person, but his interpretation of the character does have neither charm or seduction ability, but shows only a “glaring expression” that doesn’t seduce but just frighten you.
So the directors would have counted on the beauty of the actor and not on his talent (so, why did them engage him?), but this was not, anyway, useful. Words like “hopeless actor”, “fall of the character”, “flat play-acting” and “dead movie” follow along the article. Among the actresses, only Christina Ricci is saved, because she gets undressed. I don’t want to say something about the last sentence. I haven’t watched the movie yet; maybe it will not be the most beautiful and the most watched movie of the 2012, but why don’t give a chance to an actor that is making his way? Not always actors are good at their work, even the best (Are we always good in what we are doing?); Robert has never studied acting, he just did an audiction for a movie that became a world phenomenon. They gave to him scripts without doing any audiction: had he to say no just because he has never been an actor? In Italy there are many people doing everything in shows without doing it so much well and we like them. You can be good at acting but if you are not, you can improve if you love it. I agree, you can appreciate or not the work of an actor, everyone can think and say what we want, but give a slight of trust for a person, I think we all are able to do it. - Cristina Spazzoli -
